Hi Everyone! Great meeting last night! Today I'm doing the instructions from the Introduction and Step 0 on the 12 Steps page. I am creating a notebook, printing up the tools and other pages, and getting to know the literature. I am going to be reflecting on the Symptoms and how they show up in my life. Looking for clarity! Thank you all for creating a space for recovery from financial underearning!

Hi Everyone! Yesterday I learned about "Interviewing" from a member of FUA who has been through the process and knew how to do it. In previous 12 step programs I was told to make "Outreach Calls" but I really wasn't clear about what I was supposed to do or what the purpose was. I now have the tool of Interviewing which allows me to call other members of FUA (or other programs) who have more experience around a process or issue than I do and ask for their Experience, Strength and Hope. I learned that I am not "asking for advise", which will give away my power and put the responsibility of "fixing" my problem onto another person. Instead, I learned that if I start the conversation with the Serenity Prayer, then I invoke a Higher Power to infuse the conversation with grace, and take my personal agenda out of it. It helps me be open, honest, and willing to receive whatever may come from the conversation.

I also learned to ask pointed questions to help direct the conversation and to help me be clear about what I'm learning. It was suggested that I write down what the interviewee says and then reflect on what was said. Once I am done with my Interview, I learned that I may ask if the interviewee knows another member I may be able to interview and learn from.

It may sound silly, but I never knew what to do before. Now I can approach other members and find out about them in a purposeful way. I can also learn a lot!. Plus, I can take this skill outside of FUA and do it in the "job world" as part of my networking skills. Thanks so much for this tool!

I have set a goal of prosperous retirement before 65. I also want to tour South America and other places. I am exploring ESOL as a career option that has lots of flexibility and could fill the remaining gap in what I have identified as my prosperity requirements to meet the 3 goals of all needs, some wants, and a prudent reserve of savings. It's hard going to classes though, so I need to keep my focus on the goal, not agonize over the process

Hi Everyone, it's me again! I wanted to share some things I have been doing as I get clarity with my income. I have all my tax returns since 1989. I made an excel spread sheet that lists the income, taxes, and tax returns I made for every year. I could see how much I have made in my life-time now and how much I have paid in taxes. This of course does not include many of the income categories on the income tracking sheet for this program, like gifts, retirement, or other streams, but it does give me a starting place.

The next thing I did was to look at all my W-2 forms and make a "Job History", kind of a precursor to a 4th step inventory list. And listed all the jobs I had held throughout my whole life. How long I worked there, what job title, industry and how much I made. I found a tremendous amount of clarity from this process, as I was very vague about my whole job history and uncertain of how much I was making at any one job. (I had a lot of jobs). Now I know. A light was shined on this painful past, and I can be relieved of its shame and confusion with the help of this program.

I then set out to combine these two documents and their data and made a graph out of it to show it visually, so I could see my income trends over time, either decreasing or increasing. I noticed many important trends, like I made the most money when I was working full-time in a stable job, and my income grew steadily during and after my MA program, which shows me that the more capable and competent I felt, the more money I was able to make. I also saw major dips in income the more chaotic my emotional and social life was.

I'm still gleaning so much information from this job/ income excavation. I had wanted to do this for years, but now have the right context to fully explore and begin to understand my Financial Underearning.
